National Museum of the Marine Corps

Project: National Museum of the Marine Corps

Architect: Fentress Architects

Contractor: Naturalite Skylight Systems

Materials: Custom Fabricated 11 Gauge Brushed Stainless Steel

SAF fabricated the large protruding interior column for the National Museum of the Marine Corps building. This job featured over 300 panels, fabricated from brushed 11 gauge stainless steel. Due to the unique shape of the column, no two panels were the same size and many of the panels weighed in excess of 400 lbs.  The column is meant to represent the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima atop Mount Suribachi. The angle of the column is the exact angle of the flag as depicted in the Marine Corps War Memorial (also known as the Iwo Jima Memorial). Whether you want a tested panel system or something completely custom, SAF should be your first call.
